Why bass is different
Sound insulation from mass falls away as frequency drops. At 40-80Hz, doubling glass thickness buys you very little. What works is decoupling: two independent leaves separated by a deep air gap, so the system resonance sits below the problem band and attenuation rises above it.
This is why we specify the deepest cavity the reveal permits — 200mm or more — on nightlife-affected properties, and why we will tell you honestly when a shallow reveal limits what is achievable.
- 40-125Hz music bass: controlled by cavity depth
- 500Hz-2kHz crowd and voice noise: controlled by laminate mass
- Door slams and glass collection: broadband impulsive peaks
- Smoking-area conversation: sustained mid-band, often the worst offender
