    Hinged secondary glazing swings open on a side or top hinge like a casement door. Because the whole panel clears the opening, it gives unrestricted access to the primary window — essential where you have working internal shutters, deep splayed reveals, or window furniture that a sliding track would foul.

    Acoustically, hinged units are the strongest opening style we supply. There is no track gap and no meeting stile: the panel closes onto a continuous compression seal around all four edges, which is the same detail used on fixed panels. With 10.8mm acoustic laminate and a generous cavity, hinged units reach 53dB.

    When hinged beats sliding

    Choose hinged where the window has original internal shutters that must still fold back, where the reveal is deep enough that a slider would sit too far forward, or where the opening is tall and narrow so a horizontal track would be impractical.

    The four-sided seal advantage

    Sound leaks through gaps, not through glass. A hinged panel compresses a single continuous EPDM gasket around its full perimeter when the multi-point latch is thrown, eliminating the meeting-stile flanking path that costs sliders a few decibels.

    Top-hung and double-leaf options

    Top-hung units are used above head height and on transom lights, holding open on a friction stay. Wide openings can be glazed as a double-leaf pair meeting on a central rebate, so a 1.8m casement still opens fully without an oversized single panel.

    Noise assessment and survey process, step by step

    Before we specify a single hinged leaf we run a structured acoustic assessment of the room. The goal is to identify the dominant noise source, measure how much of it is reaching you through the window versus around it, and set a realistic decibel target for the finished installation.

    The whole assessment takes about 60-90 minutes on site for a typical London flat or townhouse floor, and you receive the written findings with your fixed quote.

    Installation costs are already inside those figures. There is no separate day rate, no scaffolding charge for internal work, and no VAT surprise — quotes are shown inclusive. The only items ever charged separately are structural sub-frames for out-of-square reveals (£70-£140 per window) and conservation drawing packs for listed properties (£180 fixed, refunded against the order).

    Financing: whole-house projects can be spread over 6, 12 or 24 months. Interest-free 6 and 12 month plans are available on orders over £1,500, with 24-month plans offered at a low fixed rate, subject to status and a soft credit check that does not affect your score. A 25% deposit secures manufacture and the balance is due on completion — or spread from the completion date if you are financing.
