Why conservation areas accept it
Conservation area controls are principally about external appearance and the character of the street scene. Because a secondary unit is set behind the original window inside the reveal, there is no change visible from the public highway — the test most conservation policies actually apply.
- No change to external elevation, sightlines or glazing bars
- Original windows retained in full
- Reversible internal fixings only
- No effect on Article 4 restricted permitted development rights
